Lutein is a kind of natural carotenoids with important physiological function, which exists in some deep green vegetables and fruits such as broccoli, spinach, cabbage and kiwi fruit. Lutein can not be self-synthesized in human bodies, and can only be obtained from foods.
Lutein and zeaxanthin( another type of carotinoid) are the important substances which exist in retina and macular. Harmful blue light which radiates from laptop screen, TV set, fluorescent lamp and sunlight could be absorbed by lutein, and the damage of macular caused by free radicals could be avoided, and the risk of cataract as well as that of AMD could be lowered
