Warli Paintings

The name ‘Warli’ is derived from the tribe situated in Thane district of Maharashtra, India. The origin of Warli can be traced to as early as the 10th century AD. In those times, Warli Paintings were originally created on mud walls of tribal houses with a white coloured paste. This paste was obtained from ground rice.
