It is also used to make adiponitrile, adipic acid, hexamethylenediamine, succinic acid, butanediol, γ-butyrolactone, etc. In the pharmaceutical industry, it can be used to produce carbetaquinone, progesterone, rifamycin, and as a pharmaceutical solvent.
