Propionic anhydride

Propionic anhydride is a transparent liquid, used as propionylating agent in the manufacture of pharmaceuticals, spices and special esters. In the pharmaceutical industry, it is used for the production of kerathamycin propionate (antibiotic), testosterone propionate (testosterone deficiency), hydroxymethandrostenolone propionate (anticancer), chlordiazepoxide propionate (adrenal cortical hormones), and betamethasone dipropionate (adrenal cortical hormones), etc. It is also used as dehydrating agent in organic synthesis for nitration and sulfonation reactions, and is used for the manufacture of alkyd resins and dyes.
