On the one hand, vacuum filtration has lots of advantages. Gravity filtration uses the force of gravity to pull a solvent through a filter and leave the insoluble solids behind. Vacuum filtration is set up with a Buchner funnel set into a flask with a sidearm to be connected to a vacuum, and the filter paper is placed over the base of a Buchner funnel. Due to the force of vacuum, vacuum filtration is faster and more efficient at removing residual liquid and give out a purer solid than gravity filtration.
