P-Toluenesulfonic acid

toluenesulfonic acid is widely used in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals, pesticides, stabilizers for polymerization reactions, catalysts for organic synthesis (esters, etc.), intermediates for coatings and resin curing agents. It is a common acid catalyst for organic synthesis. It can be neutralized with sodium hydroxide to produce sodium p-toluenesulfonate, and then with the action of phosphorus pentachloride, p-toluenesulfonyl chloride can be produced. The latter is used in the nucleophilic substitution reaction, also used as the protective base of hydroxyl group. The use of p-toluenesulfonic acid also catalyzes the dihydrofuran protecting group on s, carboxylic acid esterification, ester exchange reaction, and makes aldehydes to generate acetal and so on.
