Linaclotide
Extracellular cGMP reduces the activity of painful nerve fibers and can reduce visceral pain in model animals. Intracellular cGMP can increase chloride and bicarbonate secretion in the lumen of the small intestine by activating CFTR (cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator), which ultimately leads to increased secretion of small intestinal fluid and increased small intestinal transit velocity.
