Surface Requirements for Types of Automotive Grille Parts

Automotive grille parts refer to a more grid-like structure on the main structure of the product, with through holes in the middle of the grid.

Such parts generally refer to the engine intake grille (radiator grille), bumper decorative grille, the buffer grille inside the car.

The buffer grille is a functional part and is generally not seen by the user in the interior of the car.

The air intake grille (radiator grille) and bumper grille are exterior parts, and the most important thing is the surface quality.

The surface treatment of the air intake grille generally includes skin texture, sandblasting, painting, electroplating, and the materials usually use PP, ABS, ASA, etc.

The bumper grid pattern is sandblasted, mainly PP material. Limited by product structure, it is difficult to eliminate weld marks.

How to control the location of the weld line is the most important issue for this type of product.

Precautions For Automotive Grille Mold Design

According to the shape of the mesh, the automotive grille can also be divided into the irregular grille and square hole grille. The welding line problem of the square hole automobile grille is more prominent, but it is also easier to solve these problems in the mold structure. The grids in the two directions of the square-hole automobile grille are usually different. One direction is the main body, and the other direction is the stiffener at the secondary position. It is easy to pay attention to the weld marks in the main direction, so the weld marks should be located in the second position as much as possible.

The parting line of the automobile grille is more complicated, and the parting surface needs to be designed according to a certain rule, not at will, to avoid molding problems. The draft angles at the grid position is usually not large, so the design should be checked according to the surface treatment requirements. If the ribs are on both of cavity side and core side, it is necessary to focus on verifying the respective draft angles of the cavity and core. Generally, the draft angles of the cavity side are larger than the core side to avoid the product will be stuck to the cavity side of mold.

Features of Automobile Grille Mold

Automobile grille products have more mesh through holes, complicated shapes, and parting lines, so there are more small positions on the mold, the mold size is large, and the core side of mold has more blade ejectors or small diameter ejector pins, which is difficult to process, so it is necessary to make inserts structures.

For automobile grille products with complex shapes, first, consider the overall arrangement of the gates, but it is difficult to accurately control the weld line marks. The hot runner system generally uses sequential raft control to adjust the position of the weld line.

The gap between the grid bars is small, and it is generally impossible to directly arrange the gate. Usually, the gate is submerged at the bottom. In order to release the runners, a lifter structure is required. Restricted by the product structure, some lifters cannot be moveable in the horizontal direction, and a mold structure with multiple ejections must be used.

If production cycle or product shape and mold structure and processing permits, using direct waterlines are preferred, which is more conducive to the cooling effect. When there are many ejector pins and mechanisms, direct waterlines + well is the most commonly used form.
