Copper chromite

It is mainly used as a hydrocarbon oxidation catalyst. It can be made by the high-temperature calcination of copper(II) oxide and chromium(III) oxide or the thermal decomposition of copper chromate, which evolves oxygen at higher temperatures and decomposes to copper chromite. Copper chromite, one of the most efficient materials, has wide commercial applications as a catalyst used in the unit processes of organic synthesis such as hydrogenation, dehydrogenation, hydrogenolysis, oxidation, alkylation, cyclization, etc. It can be used in pollution abatement as the catalyst to remove aqueous organic wastes, volatile organic compounds, and vehicular primary emissions such as CO, unburned hydrocarbon, NOx, and soot.
