Acetic acid

Acetic acid (AcOH) is a monobasic weak carboxylic acid with typical properties of carboxylic acids. It reacts with certain metals, metal oxides and hydroxides to form salts. Many acetates have important uses. For example, lead tetraacetate is an important oxidant, basic iron acetate [Fe(C2H3OO)6OH(OOCCH3)2] and [Fe3(C2H3OO)6(OH)2(OOCCH3)], lead acetate are used as mordants, and ferrous acetate is used for printing. Acetic acid undergoes esterification with s; it can also undergo esterification with unsaturated hydrocarbons under the action of catalysts; α-hydrogen can be replaced by halogens; it undergoes aldol condensation with formaldehyde under the action of catalysts; nitric acid can increase the nitration rate when it undergoes nitration in acetic acid; it reacts with benzoyl chloride to produce acetyl chloride and benzoic acid. Acetic acid can produce various derivatives with important uses, such as methyl acetate, ethyl acetate, propyl acetate, butyl acetate, etc. It is an excellent solvent for the coating and paint industry. Cellulose acetate produced by the reaction of acetic anhydride and cellulose can be used to make films, spray paints and various plastic products. Monochloroacetic acid can be used to prepare carboxymethyl cellulose, etc. Vinyl acetate acid produced by acetic acid and acetylene is an important raw material for the synthesis of drugs, dyes and fragrances, and is also an important solvent for processing rubber. Acetic acid plays an important role in industrial production and organic synthesis.
