CNC Machining Polycarbonate
Polycarbonate (PC) refers to a class of polymers whose macromolecular chains are composed of carbonate-type repeating structural units. It has outstanding impact resistance, good creep resistance and dimensional stability, heat resistance, low water absorption, non-toxicity, and excellent dielectric properties. It is the only product with good transparency among the five major engineering plastics, and it is also the product with the fastest growth rate in recent years. Fast general-purpose engineering plastics.
Machining PC materials are mainly PC sheets and PC rods, which are very suitable for polycarbonate CNC precision machining services and polycarbonate CNC turning services.
As a widely used plastic material for CNC processing, polycarbonate has outstanding impact resistance, good creep resistance and dimensional stability, heat resistance, low water absorption, non-toxic, excellent dielectric properties, and good machining performance, which makes CNC machining polycarbonate a preferred material for many industries. PC machined parts are widely used in automotive, electrical and electronic, construction, office equipment, packaging, sports equipment, medical care and other fields. Our CNC polycarbonate machining services includes polycarbonate CNC machining, polycarbonate machining turning, surface treatment of polycarbonate parts, etc.
Advantages and Applications of Polycarbonate/PC Parts
Architecture
Polycarbonate sheet machining has good light transmittance, impact resistance, UV radiation resistance, dimensional stability and good molding processing performance of its products, which makes it have obvious technical performance advantages over inorganic glass traditionally used in the construction industry.
Automobile industry
CNC machined polycarbonate is a kind of plastic machining materials and has good impact resistance, heat distortion resistance, good weather resistance and high hardness, so it is suitable for the production of various parts of cars and light trucks, mainly in lighting systems, dashboards, heating panels, defrosters and polycarbonate alloy bumpers, etc.
Medical instruments
Because polycarbonate products can withstand steam, cleaning agents, heating and large-dose radiation disinfection without yellowing and physical performance degradation, cnc polycarbonate are widely used in artificial kidney hemodialysis equipment and other devices that need to be operated under transparent and intuitive conditions. In medical equipment that needs repeated disinfection, such as the production of high-pressure syringes, surgical masks, disposable dental appliances, blood separators, etc.
Aviation and aerospace industry
In recent years, with the rapid development of aviation and aerospace technology, the requirements for various components in aircraft and spacecraft have been continuously improved, making the application of PC machining parts in this field also increasing.
Electronic and electrical industry
Because polycarbonate has good and constant electrical insulation in a wide range of temperature and humidity, it is an excellent insulating material. At the same time, its good flame retardancy and dimensional stability make PC CNC machined parts form a broad application field in the electronic and electrical industry.
Optical lens industry
Polycarbonate parts occupy an extremely important position in this field due to its unique characteristics of high light transmittance, high refractive index, high impact resistance, dimensional stability and easy processing and molding. Optical lenses made of optical grade polycarbonate can not only be used in cameras, microscopes, telescopes and optical testing i
Polycarbonate VS Acrylic
Both PC and acrylic are thermoplastic engineering grade plastics, and they all have various performance characteristics. Acrylic is mostly used in advertising display and craft gifts, while PC is mostly used in industrial manufacturing and outdoor decoration. The main differences between PC and acrylic are:
1. Difference in Hardness
Acrylic is less rigid than PC. The surface of acrylic products is easy to scratch, so acrylic needs to be protected by a protective film, and the protective film on the surface of the sheet cannot be torn off during the processing and production process, and the surface must be prevented from being scratched and left scratches during the packaging process. PC hardness is relatively high, generally nails and wood will not be scratched, and the wear resistance is excellent.
2. Difference in Translucency
Acrylic has better light transmission performance than PC. The light transmittance of acrylic is as high as 92%, which is as high as glass, so it is called plexiglass, especially optical grade and light diffusion grade acrylic, which has extremely high light transmittance and is suitable for manufacturing optical lenses and industrial lenses. The light transmittance of PC is only about 87%, which can only be applied to outdoor roof lighting covers and outdoor advertising light boxes.
3. Difference in Processability
Acrylic is easier to process than PC. Acrylic has lower hardness and is easy to form. It can be cut, carved, gonged, milled, drilled, turned, chamfered, trimmed, polished, bent, etc. with woodworking machinery. However, PC processing is higher hardness and more difficult cut.
4. Difference in Temperature Resistance
PC is more resistant to high temperature than acrylic. PC can withstand a high temperature of 135 degrees, while acrylic starts to soften when it reaches 85 degrees.
5. Difference in Other Properties
PC is superior to acrylic in terms of pressure resistance, tensile strength, low temperature resistance, acid and alkali corrosion resistance, dimensional stability, and material stability.
