In most pumps, the portion of the shaft that is under the shaft and sleeve arrangement is covered with a shaft sleeve. The shaft sleeve mechanical seal is a sleeve of metal, usually bronze or stainless steel, that is designed to either slide or thread onto the shaft. It acts as a shield for the shaft assembly in pumps and compressors. The mechanical seal sleeve is mounted over a shaft and shaft assembly to protect it in a corrosive environment.
Shaft sleeves are commonly found in single stage pumps. The pump shaft usually offers protection from corrosion and erosion.
Sealcon manufacture shaft sleeves with OEM sizes and materials, if you are interested in our products, please feel free to contact us.
Function of Seal Spare Parts Sleeve
The basic function of a shaft sleeve is to protect the shaft from packing wear at the stuffing box. Shaft sleeves help protect the running surface of the shaft seal or the surfaces in contact from damage or abrasive wear. The hardness of the material used to construct the shaft must be sufficient; otherwise, it may cause a shaft sleeve to fail.
Shape of Seal Spare Parts Sleeve
Shaft Sleeve is rotating body parts, the length of which is larger than the diameter. A shaft sleeve is usually a hollow metal tube, cylindrical in shape. Generally, it is composed of the concentric outer cylindrical surface, conical surface, the hole and the thread and the corresponding end surface. Depending on the shape of the structure, the shaft sleeve can be divided into optical axis shape, stepped shaft shape, hollow shaft shape and crankshaft shape. When the aspect ratio of the shaft is less than 5, it is called the short axis, when more than 20, it is called the slender shaft. Most of the shaft sleeve is between the two.
A hook-type sleeve used to be popular for overhung impeller pumps that operate at high temperatures because it is clamped at the impeller end and the rest of the sleeve is free to expand axially with temperature changes. But with the increased use of cartridge-type mechanical seals, the use of hook-type sleeves is diminishing.

Ceramic coated sleeves, using PTA welding or similar, have been used with some success for many years, but these still have many limitations.
New solid tungsten carbide shaft sleeves are now available, in a grade selected specifically for shaft sleeves. This is not a coating, but a solid sleeve. Field results have seen sleeves that were lasting days last for more than a year. They can be used in the vast majority of corrosive services, and are not more expensive than ceramically coated sleeves.
The reduced flush water consumption, reduced pollution, increased reliability and ease of maintenance are being well received globally. They are quickly becoming the sleeve of the future.
