Goserelin

Goserelin is a gonadorelin analog with similar effects, and was approved for marketing in France in 1987. Goserelin is an analog of luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone, long-term use of this product can inhibit the synthesis of pituitary luteinizing hormone, thus causing a decline in serum testosterone in men and serum estradiol in women, and after discontinuation of this effect can be reversed, the initial use of this product can temporarily increase the concentration of serum testosterone in men and serum estradiol in women. In male patients, serum testosterone concentrations fall to depot levels about 21 days after the first injection of this drug and are maintained at these levels during subsequent therapy, which results in regression of prostate tumors and improvement of symptoms in most patients. In female patients, serum estradiol concentrations are suppressed about 21 days after initial administration and maintained at postmenopausal levels every 28 days of subsequent therapy. The half-life of the product is 2 to 4 hours, which will increase in patients with renal insufficiency. It is used for endometriosis, hormone-treatable prostate cancer, and breast cancer in premenopausal and perimenopausal women.
